Privacy Policy

Who this policy is from

Screen Awesome is developed and maintained by Nitinbhai Viras, an independent developer. For any privacy question, correction or request, email nitinbhaiviras@gmail.com. There is no company, no data-processing partner and no third party involved in the product.

What data Screen Awesome collects

None. To be specific, and using the categories the Chrome Web Store asks developers to declare, Screen Awesome collects and transmits none of the following:

• Personally identifiable information — no name, address, email or age
• Health, financial or payment information
• Authentication information — there is nothing to sign in to
• Personal communications
• Location
• Web history or browsing activity
• User activity such as clicks, keystrokes or mouse position
• Website content, including text, images, audio and video from pages you visit

There is no analytics library, no telemetry endpoint, no error-reporting service and no advertising or tracking identifier anywhere in the extension.

What is stored, and where

Everything the extension holds is stored locally, on the computer you are using:

• Your captures. Screenshots and recordings are written to your browser's own IndexedDB storage on your device. This includes their metadata: the title, the page address the capture came from, its dimensions, size and the time it was taken.
• Click positions during a tab recording. If you leave the "Track clicks for auto-zoom" option on, the coordinates of your clicks are recorded alongside that video so the studio can zoom to them. They are stored with the recording, on your device, and are deleted with it.
• Your preferences. Theme, image format and quality, recording options and recently used colours and stamps are stored using Chrome's settings storage. If you have Chrome Sync enabled, Chrome may sync these small preference values between your own signed-in browsers. That is Chrome's own mechanism operating on your own account, not a transfer to us — and it never includes your captures.

Why the extension cannot upload anything

This is worth stating precisely, because it is the difference between a policy and a guarantee. A Chrome extension can only contact websites it has declared permission for. Screen Awesome declares no host permissions at all, so Chrome will not permit it to make a network request to any address.

Access to the pages you visit

Screen Awesome has no standing access to your browsing. It declares no content scripts, so nothing of it runs on the pages you visit. When you ask for a capture of a page, Chrome grants temporary access to that one tab — under the activeTab permission — for as long as you stay on it, and revokes that access the moment you navigate away. The extension reads the tab's title and address at that moment only, to name the file and record where the capture came from, and both stay on your device.

Permissions and why each exists

• activeTab — capture the tab you invoked the extension on, and read its title and address for the filename
• scripting — place the region-select overlay and the recording control bar on that tab, on demand
• tabCapture — record the current tab's video and audio when you choose to
• offscreen — Chrome requires a hidden document to run the media recorder; extensions cannot do it any other way
• downloads — save a capture to your Downloads folder when you ask
• storage and unlimitedStorage — keep your preferences, and your recordings, which easily exceed the default quota
• notifications — tell you when something failed after the popup has closed
• alarms — run the daily cleanup that empties 30-day-old trash
• clipboardWrite — copy a capture to your clipboard when you ask

Your microphone and camera

These are only opened when you switch them on for a recording, and they are released the moment recording stops. Chrome asks for your permission separately, and you can withdraw it at any time from the address bar or Chrome's site settings. Audio and video from them go into your recording file on your device and nowhere else.

Third parties

There are none. The extension bundles no third-party analytics, advertising or crash-reporting code, and Chrome's own policy forbids extensions loading remote code, so nothing can be added to it after installation without a new reviewed version.

This website is equally plain: it loads no fonts, scripts, embeds, cookies or analytics from anywhere. Opening your browser's network panel on this page will show requests only for the page, its stylesheet and its images.

Children

Screen Awesome is a general-purpose utility and is not directed at children. Since it collects no data from anyone, it collects none from children either.

Your rights, and how to exercise them

Regulations such as the GDPR and CCPA give you rights to access, correct, export and delete the personal data a service holds about you. Screen Awesome holds none, so there is nothing for us to hand over or erase — and no request is necessary. You have complete control over what is on your own device:

• Delete a capture from the library, or empty the trash to remove it permanently
• Use Delete everything on the extension's settings page to erase all captures and stored data at once
• Uninstall the extension, which removes its storage — and therefore every capture — along with it

Data retention

Because we store nothing, we retain nothing. On your own device, captures stay until you delete them; items moved to trash are removed automatically after 30 days.

Changes to this policy

If this policy ever changes, the date at the top of this page changes with it. Any future version of Screen Awesome that added a network feature would require a different policy and a new Chrome Web Store review, and could not reach you as a silent update to the version described here.
