How to verify it yourself

- Look at Site access. It reads none — the extension is not permitted to contact any website, which is what makes uploading impossible rather than merely disallowed.

Is Screen Awesome really free?
Yes, and there is no paid tier to upgrade to. Every annotation tool is unlocked, including the arrow, blur, redaction, step counter, speech bubble and image insertion that comparable extensions put behind a subscription. There are no watermarks, no recording length limits imposed by us, and no account to create.
Where are my recordings stored?
In your own browser, using IndexedDB, on the machine you recorded them on. They are written there the instant they exist. Nothing is copied to a server, because the extension requests no host permissions and therefore has no server it is allowed to contact.
How can I verify that nothing is uploaded?
Open chrome://extensions, find Screen Awesome and look at its
Site access line: it has none. An extension with no host
permissions cannot make a request to any website, so this is a limit Chrome
enforces rather than a promise we are asking you to trust. You can also open the
extension's settings page and press Check its permissions to go
straight there.
Does it record in MP4 or WebM?
MP4 wherever Chrome supports encoding it, falling back to WebM otherwise. MP4 matters because it drops straight into Slack, Google Docs, Premiere and almost every video editor with no conversion step. The studio can also convert on export, and can render a clip as an animated GIF.
What is auto-zoom to clicks?
While you record a tab, Screen Awesome notes where you click. Afterwards the studio replays the recording through a virtual camera that glides in on each click and pans between them, which is the polish that normally means editing a screencast by hand. You can preview it live, switch it off, or bake it into the exported file.
Can it record my whole screen and other applications?
Yes. Choose Screen in the recorder and Chrome will ask which screen, window or application to share. You can also capture a single browser tab, or just your camera. A circular webcam bubble can be composited into a screen recording, and moved between corners while you record.
Does it slow down the pages I browse?
No. There is no content script running on the pages you visit. Code is injected into a page only at the moment you ask for a capture of that page, and Chrome revokes that access as soon as you navigate away. On every other page, the extension is doing nothing at all.
What happens to my captures if I uninstall the extension?
They are deleted along with the extension's storage, because that storage is the only place they exist. Download anything you want to keep before uninstalling. The library offers a bulk download for exactly this.
Is there a Firefox, Edge or Safari version?
Not yet. Screen Awesome is built for Chrome's Manifest V3 and uses Chrome-specific capture APIs. It should install on Chromium-based browsers such as Edge, Brave and Opera, though that is not what it is tested against.
How do I report a bug or request a feature?
Email nitinbhaiviras@gmail.com with what you were doing and what happened. Bug reports that mention the recording target you chose, whether the microphone or camera was on, and any notification text you saw are the fastest ones to fix.
